Our Insights

The UCLA Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences appointed Use All Five to redesign and rethink the department’s website. There were two large problems facing the department website at the time: an unhelpful and undesirable website to potential students and current students/faculty.

By working within their already established Mambo CMS, UA5 designed a user interface website with a focus on being as easy-to-use as possible. UAF did this by narrowing in and focusing on the navigation. UAF designed the website to highlight what’s desirable about the department: the study of our beautiful earth, specifically the weather and oceans.

UA5 brought the website alive by making the user interface dynamic. The background and colors reflect the current weather of the Los Angeles area. If it’s raining, the background of the website is dark and cloudy. If it’s sunny (which it is most of the year in Los Angeles), the background shows a cheerful sun.
