Our Insights
The American Institute of Architects is the largest professional membership association for licensed architects. We were contracted to build and design a new website for the Los Angeles branch, which includes prestigious members such as Thom Mayne and Frank Gehry.
The original AIA Los Angeles website made it difficult for users to find what they were looking for. The website was not very engaging and didn’t reflect the current state of Los Angeles architecture.
We focused the new design on creating a navigation for the different types of AIA users (members, students, and people who want general information), and also put a large emphasis on the Los Angeles Architecture culture. With a suggestion from our Creative Advisor and good friend, Henri Lucas, we accomplished this by building the site around mapping software, specifically the Google Map API. The background is a giant Google map that updates its location based on where calendar or news items are located in the Los Angeles area.
We built a custom content management system that allows the AIA Los Angeles committee to post events, articles, news, etc., as well as geocode these posts so they can be displayed accurately on the map.
